I'm Back!

If you are reading this, you are either reading backwards after I have made significant updtaes and it is now able to attract your attention, or you are very dedicated to see this finished product and i haven't even gone anywhere with it in months.

Its finals week for me.  No excuses this time, no explanations of my life.  This is what you come here for:

Good news!  I'm graduating and hopefully will get to spend some time on this this summer, I'm even hoping for some this week.  I seem to have gone out of touch with my artists.  So I will have to dothis myself.  Now, I have forgotten how to use some of the software I learned to edit the ROM, and I have forgotten what special little things I need to remember to work on it (such as where stuff is...), so I will need a little time to reorient myself and attempt to build this in a more organized fashion than previously.  What I was doing was a shotgun approach of doing everything that I thought I could do easily while I figured out the harder stuff.  But I kinda need to start over, but not from scratch.  I have everything still, its just that I need to take a clean copy of the game and reinsert everything.   But what order to work on stuff?

Dialog will be some of the last stuff I do.  This is kinda required because of the software putting it almost where ever it pleases.  And if I accidentally screw something up and need to revert to a previous build (I have some 50 builds from where I kept things backed up up) I can only go back as far as the last text change because of a reference file.  The reference file will assume some things and that gets too technical for you to worry about.  Leave it to me.  I'll do dialog once I feel comfortable that it is far enough along that I can do it safely.  The other option for this is to do dialog first and then do everything.  If I add NPCs or something or take some away.... things might get weird.  So dialog last/near last to avoid issues and keep constancy in plot and style.

I can go do the Title, main character, and all the sprites that I was doing and try to fix the things.  I don't foresee any issues with this.  Then I can also try to work on the map.  I'll be doing that myself and attempting to build everything from shots from the show.

Now for a plot....

Since I have to start over essentially and rebuild from the ground up.  Let's take the newly obtained information from Season 2 and see what we can do (I was kinda hoping that Season 2 could help fill in some of the things that I didn't know what to do).

What did we gain from this season?

We saw the rise and fall of Discord and Queen Chrysalis. A revamped Luna that must be retaken into account for spriting.  "Sweet and Elite," "Hearth's Warming Eve," "A Canterlot Wedding," and a few others have given us more insight into the architecture of Canterlot and have provided more views for building this city, as well as a new location:  the caverns below Canterlot.  We have seen baby ponies, a new ranch, Flim & Flam, Zap Apples, Trains galore, Windigoes, more DRAGONS, and Daring Doo.  The new content from this season alone is probably enough to fill the game, so it is (in theory) going to be much easier to complete the game's content organization, cities, gym leaders, bosses, etc.

So expect soon, a post that reorganizes the game.  Then from there, I'll be taking solid directions in getting this product out there, with updates, 9 months already in the making.

  1. Hey nice to see you're not dead. I don't know if this might seem rude or something, but have you seen this project: http://ponymondawndusk.wikia.com ? I think they make pretty much the same thing you do. Maybe a collaboration could make things faster.. or end in complete chaos and disharmony. I don't know. Just wanted to let you know in case you haven't heard of it before.
